About

SEDS Rice is a 501(c)3 non-profit that empowers young people to participate and make an impact in space exploration. SEDS Rice aims to empower undergraduate and graduate students to explore and engage in space disciplines both at Rice and abroad. The Rice Space Institute is the official sponsor of SEDS Rice and the Rice Space Institute’s heritage dates back to the creation of the world’s first Space Sciences Department in 1963 and President Kennedy’s “Moon Speech” in Rice Stadium. SEDS Rice is an official branch of SEDS-USA, the largest student-run space organization in the world, and receives all benefits of a member organization including complimentary conference tickets, access to project opportunities, and access to partnership opportunities with organizations such as The Planetary Society, NASA, the Space Foundation and more!

SEDS Rice helps students develop their technical and leadership skills by providing opportunities to lead projects and attend events. Some of SEDS Rice’s current projects and events include the OwlSat CubeSat and the Owls in Space Symposium. Visit seds.rice.edu for more information!

SWISE Rice aims to provide a platform to women and other underrepresented persons in STEM to talk and discuss current trends, issues, and be able to have open conversations about career paths. SWISE aims to promote and encourage diversity in an otherwise male-dominated sector. SWISE Rice is an official affiliate of SEDS Rice and members receive all the benefits of both SEDS Rice and SWISE Rice.
